The Mixed Major / minor Approach

In addition to clearing up some of the issues of soloing over the IV chord we also get the benefit of the minor blues scale over a Major chord which creates the tension that the Blues is known for! Mixing your solo between the "sweeter" Major and "darker" minor Blues Block you can really control the direction and feel of your solos.

The Ultimate Major / minor Pattern

So many options! That's what I love about soloing in Major keys as it is easy to keep things fresh and add surprises to your solos. Here is a pattern that I created that attempts to consolidate the approaches. It is good to be familiar with all the tools in your toolbox and not get stuck using one.
